Might sound like a lame ass story but here goes. I’m driving home (my finals ended early) turning onto the highway and this fucker in this janky ass Mazda Tribute whips across three lanes of traffic, shoots the gap in between an F-150 and my car and nearly rips the back end of the mini off. All of this was when I was slowing for a red light. So I look back like “y tho” and he keeps getting closer to my car. Then as the light turned green, he proceeds to tailgate me down the entrance ramp and floors it by me while flipping me off. So I’m like “ok that’s weird” and thought nothing of it. So I get off the highway at my exit and pull up to another stoplight and I notice the car looks familiar and it’s that Mazda Tribute so I’m like “fuck here we go.” I had my windows down bc it’s nice out so the driver decides to roll his down and talk to me. Never a good sign. He’s like “what the fuck were trying to say back there pussy” so I replied with “I wasn’t trying to say anything but you almost crashed into me.” Then the light turns green and he yells “fucking snowflake” out the window, gets into my lane and decides to break check me. Luckily my brakes are better than a Mazda suvs. So I brake, jump into the left lane and the guy is holding a baseball bat and yelling pull over so I pulled over down the first road I find and it’s a backroad I know well and I outrun him. LMP1 battles for your time.

I can’t even begin to wrap my head around what they were thinking at any point in that.

Who goes “Why yes, I do believe someone being confused with my erratic driving is a good reason to assault them with a weapon.” How small does one’s mind need to be for extreme violence to be such a quick go-to response?!

The problem is, this guy pulls a bat, you pull a gun, you know he’s just going to go back to his car for a rocket launcher . Okay, I’m exagerating... maybe... B ut this guy doesn’t seem like the type to back down and you’re going to end up having to shoot him. I think Mini made the right call in this situation.

A small nuke might settle things. Luckily, as long as you meet certain demographics, you can probably stand your ground there with little worry. Nothing of value would be lost.

The real solution might be to live elsewhere.

Yeah, the best route might be to not live there. A friend of mine from the PNW moved these several years ago for work. He lasted 3 years, and came running home - cheap real estate wasn’t worth the tradeoffs. He told me stories about some crazy traffic scenes. I’ve visited Atlanta a few times, didn’t notice anything more than that everyone goes 20 over.

I don’t think it’s a Georgia thing (admittedly knowing nothing about Georgia) as much as a Tribute driver thing. They are, after all, just a Ford Escape... a vehicle with drivers so consistently horrific that I try to keep a minimum of two lanes away from them at all times if possible . Slow, erratic, yet easily triggered and with no warning or provocation (and under the worst circumstances) become the fastest thing on the road. Basically an Corolla SUV. I’m more content to be near (or even behind) RAV4's.

Stories like this always remind me of this video. BEFORE YOU GET ALL RILED UP, EVERYONE KNOWS IT WAS STAGED!!!! Even so, I’m sure there have been plenty of times where someone was being a bully and ended up facing a little more firepower than they anticipated.

I’m guessing you were in Oconee by this point. I’ve been chased a couple times. A couple things I’d suggest if it ever happens again based on what’s happened with me. First time I was chased I used traffic to get away and he passed me but I caught up to him a little while later at a red light. I should’ve held back further but instead passed him and the chase resumed. So, if you find yourself in that position, hang back or turn off. If that’s not possible and you have to get close. Start recording on your phone immediately. Best case scenario they chill out once you have evidence. Worst case you have evidence of them committing a felony by threatening you to give to the cops. If they give chase, call 911. Last time I was chased a woman tried to hit me with her car and then started chasing me screaming she was going to kill me. Managed to lose her before cops showed up but they were at least on their way.

Ugh. A friend’s brother was just run over and killed by a road raging jerk in Texas. T hey caught the guy and he already had several road rage convictions on his record. I don’t know the solution because a bully is going to find a way to bully people but it really kills my faith in humanity sometimes.

Traffic down here isn’t that bad but Atlanta is scary. It’s like you have to go 20-30 over just to not get hit. Even the cops do it and I’ve seen people go 90 by them and they didn’t even flinch

I remember being on some link highway between two arterial routes near Atlanta, posted at 55. I was going an indicated 76 and was being passed by maybe 75% of cars on the road.

Kind of the opposite of Seattle, where people gladly trundle along at 48 in a 60.
